Leg Lengthening: Medical Indication

Accidents, microplasia, tumours and other diseases can lead to limb shortening and deformation, which can be corrected aided by telescope marrow nail systems.

Some of the most frequent medical indications are:

Trauma:

Bone and / or soft tissue have been profoundly destroyed as the result of an accident. For wound healing to result an operative shortening of the legs and/or arms must be performed. The shortening can be corrected with a telescope nail.

Disturbances of Growth:

Disturbances of growth can lead to unequal leg growth. With telescope nails these deviations can be evened out.

Microsoma:

When looking at a height of between 80 and 150 centimetres one commonly speaks of microsoma. This causes massive restrictions in day-to-day life, e.g. when sitting or driving a car. With telescope nails the reduced height can be evened out.

Tumour Removals:

If bone tumours occur large bone parts have to be radically eliminated. In the past this often lead to an amputation of the leg above the affected bone segment. Aided by telescope nails the operatively removed bone can grow again and the leg can be retained.

Amputations:

The longer the stump - the less complicated is the prosthetical care.
On the precondition that there is enough soft tissue or that it has been optimised telescope nails (the telescope marrow nail) allow to lengthen short amputation stumps at will. Especially interesting and effective is the combination with C-Leg-Prosthetics (Bock).
