Hip Joint Replacement
The implantation of an artificial hip joint, in technical terms known as hip-TEP (hip-TotalEndoProsthesis) is a complete hip replacement, which is entirely implanted into the body.
This procedure becomes necessary when all options of non-operative treatment do not provide a satisfactory improvement of the patient’s discomforts.
The damaged hip joint is replaced by a mechanical prosthesis, which has the same functional construction as a natural hip.
If the conditions are favourable, Prof. Dr. med. Augustin Betz uses so-called short stem prosthetics. Implanting these prosthetics allows to retain particular large amounts of own body bone substance.
His long-standing experience in the field of hip prosthetics and his personal commitment to the ongoing development of modern hip prosthetics additionally enable Prof. Dr. med. Betz to perform complex operations in special cases.
Even though the hip replacement treatment belongs to one of the most frequent kind of operations and as a result is medically very advanced, the hip-TEP presents the individual patient with a big challenge. There are numerous methods and different kinds of prosthetics on the market and it is not easy to make a sufficiently informed decision for a particular kind of treatment.
It is in our personal interest to inform our patients about all the possible forms of therapy and prosthetic techniques available. Please do not hesitate to contact us for a personal consultation.
